Who is an au pair?

An au pair is a young person (18 to 30 years, with no children), typically a woman, who travels to a foreign country for a defined period of time to live with a host family and help with children and light housework in exchange for food, a room, and some pocket money. The au pair is considered a full member of the host family during the entire stay.

The term "au pair" means "on equal terms". The idea of an au pair stay is for a young person to stay with a host family with children under the age of 18 "on equal terms" with the other members of the family. The purpose is for the au pair, to improve language and/or professional skills as well as broaden his/her cultural horizon by becoming more acquainted with the host country. In return, the au pair participates in the host family's domestic chores (e.g. cleaning, washing clothes, cooking, babysitting).

Au pair program is one of the best ways to travel on the cheap, as long as you enjoy being with children.

As an au pair, your stay in a country will be much more complete and exciting than if you were visiting as a tourist. Living with a host family means that you will have the opportunity to experience the country in a deeper way and you will be able to get a much more authentic opinion of the country. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience a different culture and to broaden your horizons.

Being an Au Pair - is an unforgettable experience!
