Requirements for au pairs in Austria
18-27 year old (non-EU) or 18-28 years old (EU)
Can't be married and have children
Basic knowledge of German language (with proof of knowledge)
Be able to pay for travel expenses
Must apply through an authorized job agency
Was not previously listed as au pair in Austria for longer than a year in the last five years
Visa
For citizens of non-EU countries
For citizens of EU and EFTA countries
Must apply for a residence permit "Aufenthaltsbewilligung – Sonderfälle unselbstständiger Erwerbstätiger" for the whole duration of the au pair contract
Do not need a residence permit. However, au pair must apply for a registration certificate no later than three months after the start of stay at the local Foreigners Office "Fremdenbehörde"
Requirements for host families in Austria
Have at least one child under the age of 18
Provide au pair with own bedroom and all meals
Provide au pair with pocket money from 485.85 EUR / month
Au pair duties cannot exceed 18 hours / week
Au pair stay must not be longer than 6-12 months
Be a German speaking family and willing to participate in cultural exchange
May not have family ties with the au pair
Be a different nationality than the Au Pair's nationality
Must notify the appropriate Job Service Centre "Arbeitsmarktservice Österreich" of this employment two weeks prior to au pair start.
