As an au pair in Norway, you can experience beautiful nature, Norwegian history and culture while improving your language skills and meeting new friends.

Important notice
The Norwegian au pair residence permit scheme was officially discontinued on 15 March 2024. As a result, new first-time au pair permits are no longer issued for applicants from outside the EU/EEA.
If you are not an EU/EEA citizen - it is no longer possible to start a new au pair stay in Norway.

Citizens of the EU/EEA or Switzerland may still work as au pairs in Norway under the right of free movement.

Requirements for au pairs in Norway

18-30 years old
Can't be married and have children
Good knowledge of English or Norwegian language
If staying longer than 3 months, you must register with the Norwegian police under EEA registration rules.

Requirements for host families in Norway

One au pair at a time
A couple (married or cohabiting) with or without children or a single parent with children where the parent has at least 50 % daily care responsibility.
Provide au pair with own bedroom and all meals
Provide au pair with pocket money from 7000 NOK / month
Au pair duties cannot exceed 5 hours / day and 30 hours / week
Au pair stay: 24 month
Be a Norwegian speaking family and willing to be part of a cultural exchange
